Radhanagari Dam is the oldest dam in India built on the river Bhogawati in Radhanagari near Kolhapur. Besides being used for irrigation and harnessing hydro-power, the water from the dam is used in several adjoining villages. In addition to this, the scenic setting of the dam makes it a popular tourist spot of the town. Dam construction was initiated by visionary Rajarshi Shahu on 18 February 1907. Dam is being used for irrigation as well as hydro-electricity power generation. Dam is located amidst scenic surrounding in the backdrop of thick forest cover. Er. Pandurangrrao Shinde, served as the chief engineer during the last phase of construction of this dam. The dam is known for the technology of its kind, used for the dam, i.e. the gates of the Dam open automatically depending on water pressure. Radhanagri Dam support large variety of Flaura and Fauna. It is surrounded by dense forest and has good variety of wildlife.
