Architecture
What makes that temple even more religiously significant is that the holy river Savitri that originates at Mahableshwar merges with the Arabian Sea at Harihareshwar. Harihareshwar temple is also known as ‘Devghar’ or ‘House of God.’ Harihareshwar Temple was constructed in Peshwa Style of architecture. Inside the main sanctum of the temple there are idols of Shiva, Parvati, Vishnu and Brahma in the shape of a linga. Harihareshwar Temple complex has two adjacent temples. The smaller Kalbhairav temple is expected to be visited first, before entering the main Harihareshwar temple housing an ancient Shiva Linga. A pradakshina route goes around the temple, along the sea shore.
Religious Significance
Moreover, it is believed that Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers, broke a huge boulder into two separate pieces since it stood in the way to the temple. The two segments of the boulder can still be spotted behind the temple.
History
The temple was built in 16th Century by Chandrarao, renovated in 1723 and Bajirao Peshwa is the contributor of this temple. Even in 1674, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has also visited the Harihareshwar temple.
