Architecture

A Marble chariot depicting Krishna delivering the sermon to Arjuna marks the site of the Srimad Bhagwad Gita. In one secluded section of this center, an old Shiva temple can also be seen. Hundreds of years ago, a holy water tank was present here and it can still be seen in the rainy season. A Mango shaped lake has been constructed here with covered bathing ghats for ladies. Cement parapets and enclosures have been built for protection.

Legend is that Mahabharat started from Jyotisar. Jyotisar means “the Core meaning of light” which is 'symbolic reference to god’ or 'divine wisdom’ and Jyotisar is the birthplace of Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna delivered the eternal message of Bhagavad Gita to Arjun under the banyan tree in this place. The Banyan tree under which the eternal message of holy Geeta was delivered on the Chariot of Arjuna is believed to be 5,000 years old and one of the oldest tree (which is immortal) of India.

History

It is said that Adi Sankaracharya has identified the place during his sojourn to Himalaya in the 9th centenary of Christian era. In 1850 A.D. King of Kashmir constructed one Shiva temple at the tirtha. Again in 1924, King of Darbhanga raised a stone platform around the holy banyan tree, which according to devouts is the evidence of the song celestial i.e Gita. In 1967 Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kama Koti Peetha installed the Chariot showing Gita Updesha on the platform facing east.
