Architecture
Maa Harsiddhi Temple was built in Maratha Style of architecture, an inscription of 1447 Sawat is also inscribed on a left bank made in the south. In the sanctum is inscribed on a rock, which is the symbol of power. There is a hall with two pillars, these pillars are the unique feature of this temple which belongs to the era of Maratha. Deep pillars in this temple were established by King Vikramaditya. If it is estimated then the lamp pillars are more than 2 thousand years old. Because the history of King Vikramaditya is also about 2 thousand years old. The center of attraction of the people in the temple are 2 lamp pillars present in the courtyard. These pillars are about 51 feet high, there are about 1 thousand 11 lamps combined in both lamp pillars. It is said that lighting a lamp on these pillars is very difficult.
Religious Significance
As per the folklore Prajapati Daksha’s daughters married Lord Siva against her father’s wish. Daksha doesn’t have a good relationship with his son-in-law Lord Siva. Daksha decided to insult his son-in-law in which he decided to perform Yagna in a grand. He had invited all the gods and goddesses, excluding Lord Siva from the invitation list. Sati who came to know about this Yagna thought of educating her father as the Yagna will not be fruitful without Siva. Daksha insulted Sati before the guests, Sati who was offended by the scoldings of her father self-immolated in the Yogagni. On knowing this Siva raised her and danced the dance of destruction. Veerabhadra who took birth from Siva’s anger reached Yagna along with Kali and other Siva Ganas destroyed to Yajna and killed Daksha. Lord Siva did Pralaya Thandavam after collecting Sati’s body. To stop the destruction of the universe, Vishnu sent his disc to break the corpse of Sati body into pieces. The chakra broke the corpse into 18 pieces, which fell across the Indian subcontinent. These 18 places were called by Sakthi Peethas. Ujjain is the place where elbow from Sati’s body fallen here. As per the Legend, Demon Chand and Prachanda tried to enter Mount Kailash when Lord Siva and Goddess Parvati were alone. Lord Siva ordered Chandi to destroy the demons. Chandi killed the demons after a rigorous battle. Lord Siva was impressed with Chandi’s effort and called her by the name Harsiddhi which means one who destroys evils.
Lord krishna worshipped her during his lifetime and has since been living atop hill called koyla dungar. He prayed amba mata to get power to kill asuras. After defeating the Asuras krishna built the temple. When Jarasandha was killed all Yadavas over overjoyed and they celebrated their success here. Hence called Harshad Mata or Harsiddhi Mata.
History
This temple was built in 1300 A.D. by Seth Jagdu Shah.
