Architecture
The Mukti Dwaraka Temple, or Veraval, is otherwise called Somnath and Prabhas Theertham. It is situated on the western coast in Gujarat and the last rail head in this course. Dehotsarg - Krishna, reclining under a pipal tree was shot in the foot by a Bhil huntsman named Jara who had mistaken him for a deer. Lord Krishna took his journey to Nija Dham [permanent abode] from Dehotsarg Teerth leaving behind his mortal body, hence is also called as Golak Dham Teerth or Shri Krishna Nija Dham Tirth. Ahir community women of this area wear black even to this day symbolizing mourning at his death. Dehotsarg is located on the bank of river Hiran which is about 1½ km from Somnath Temple. Krishna's footprint in marble is made at this place and named as "Golok Dham". The place is in an open area and very peaceful. The tranquil water of river Hiran and trees make the place very lovely.
Religious Significance
Legend per the Mahabharata, the Kurukshetra war brought about the demise of all the hundred children of Gandhari. On the night prior to Duryodhana's demise, Lord Krishna went to Gandhari to offer his sympathies. Gandhari felt that Krishna intentionally did not put a conclusion to the war, and in an attack of fury and distress, Gandhari reviled that Krishna, alongside other people from the Yadu line, would die following 36 years. Krishna himself knew and needed this to happen as he felt that the Yadavas had turned out to be extremely haughty and egotistical (adharmi), so he finished Gandhari's discourse by saying "tathastu" (so be it). Following 36 years passed, a battle broke out between the Yadavas, at a celebration, who slaughtered each other. His senior sibling, Balarama, then surrendered his body using Yoga. Krishna resigned into the backwoods and began contemplating under a tree.
