Architecture

As the temple is in the Goastani water, piligrims can do abhishekam and puja during the telugu month of VAISAKHAM ( i.e in the middle of May/June )only. All the remaining months the Saptakoteswara Linga will be under the waters of Gostani. Another Shiva Linga is installed by Lord Rama. So the temple got the name Ramalingeswara Swamy. Here is a Shiva Linga made of shells and conches, so it is called as Natta Rameswaram.

Religious Significance

As per the legends, Rama installed Linga here to get rid of the Dosha in Killing Ravana who is a Brahmin. Rama reached West Godavari while on his way back to Ayodhya. He asked Anjaneya to bring Siva Linga from Kailash as time is lapsing, Rama along with Sita and Lakshmana made two Siva Lingas from the river Sand and worshipped the Idols. As these Idols were created with seashells (Natta) within, hence the name Natta Rama Lingeswara or Natta Rameswaram.

History

This temple was rebuilt by Kuli Kutubhsha in the year 1583 A.D. and Chalukyas are the contributors for this temple.
