Within the complex, there is also temple of Kantideval, which is oldest of the cluster and is said to have been built by a build ascetic named Santosh Giri in 1039, later expanded by Kalchuri King Prithivideva-II in the 15th century. It is having four gates and beautiful carvings. It has also been restored by Archaeological Survey of India. The sanctum and the mandapa are fortified with a fascinated courtyard, which was built in Maratha period in the late 18th century. A few kilometers away there are ruins of ancient 11th century old Kadeideol Shiva temple located on a hill top of ruined fort, built by Kalchuri rulers, who were followers of Shiva & Shakti. This temple is also being planned for restoration by the archaeological department. People throng the temple during Navaratri festival, when Jyotikalash is lit to appease the mother goddess. The guardian of the temple is considered to be Kalbhairva, whose temple is located on the approach road to the temple on the highway.

Also five faces represent five elements Prithvi, Varun, Vayu, Agni and Akash. Anything in the Universe is made of these five elements in different proportions.

Religious Significance

Mahamaya Devi Temple - Sati, who was humiliated in the yajna of Father Daksha, gave up his life by the power of yoga. Distressed by the death of Sati, Lord Shiva wandered across the universe, disregarding her dead body. At this time, wherever the parts of the mother fell, they became Shaktipeeth. These places were recognized as Shaktipeeth. Mother's wing fell in Mahamaya temple. That is why this place was included in the 51 Shakti Peeths of Mata. In 1045 A.D, King Ratnadeva first came for hunting in a village named Manipur, where he did a night time rest on a tree. When the king’s eyes opened in the middle of the night, he saw a supernatural light under the tree. It was miraculous to see that a meeting of the Adi Shakti Shri Mahamaya Devi is engaged. Seeing this, they lost their consciousness. On the morning they returned to their capital, Tumman and decided to make Ratanpur their capital and in the grand temple of Shri Mahamaya Devi was built.

History

Mahamaya Devi Temple was built in 12th Century A.D. by Raja Ratnadeva-I and the temple was renovated by the Kalchuri King Prithvideva in the 15th century. Kanthi Dewal Temple was built in 9th to 12th century.
