Architecture
At the entrance of the Bhagavati temple on either side one can see two life size images of elephants in standing position made of black stone to welcome the visitors. Shri Bhagavati temple complex has five temples, main temple being of Shri Bhagavati, other temples are of Shri Sateri, Shri Dev Ravalnath, Shri Dev Bhivangi Panchakshari & Brahma (Shri Vishnu, Shri Ganapath, Shri Shankar).
History
The temple is believed to be more than 500 years old. Goa was once ruled by the Portuguese and this had an adverse effect on many Hindu temples of that region during their rule. The foreign rulers had in fact demolished and destructed many Hindu shrines of that region, in order to diminish the glory of the religion and to spread their own ideologies and beliefs among the locals. Only a handful of temples survived their wraths and this Bhagwati temple is one of those few temples that stood the test of time.
