Religious Significance

It is said that many hundreds of years ago this place was surrounded by dense forests and where some shepherds used to come to feed their cows. According to people, a cow used to stand near a mound in the forest and a stream of milk started flowing from her breasts. Gradually this thing spread like fire. Raja Hari Singh of that time came to know about this. He discussed this with the Pandits of Kashi, and started digging the place. After the excavation, a Shivalinga appeared but as soon as the excavation was done to remove the Shivalinga, it fell towards the Shivalingar. Later, the then King Hari Singh called the Pandits of Kashi in the 11th century and built a temple there. At the same time, the priests of the temple say that the description of the ancient temple is found in the Shiv Purana. It is said that Dugdheshwar nath mahadev Dugdheswaranath temple has been given importance like Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, Ujjain. It is described in Shiva Purana and Skandapuran.
