Architecture
The fort had five bastians and three vast fortifications constructed out of soil and stones. There is a big and beautiful rectangular well near temple, ‘Kushawarti Vihir’ known as Ganesh Kund.
Religious Significance
This place was known as “Ekchakra Nagar” as per Vashistha Puran and Mahabharata. In the Vashistha Puran it is mentioned that Sage Vashishtha, Lord Rama’s Guru had inhabited here and that for his religious cores this temple was founded. It is also indicated that around that time the river Wardha was created. According to the scripture, this Lord Ganpati was known as ‘Varad Vinayak’ and the river Wardha as Varad. The ancient time prevailed prior to the birth of Lord Rama and it is said that the sage Vaishishtha had left this holy place after the birth of Lord Rama.
History
One of the prominent Ashtavinayakas in Vidarbha, this temple was renovated in they year 1993. While excavating the site in the year 1994, a Shivaling was found, just before Mahashivratri. A beautiful 8th century idol of Chandraprabhu Swami, the 8th incarnate of the spiritual guru of the Jain sect, is also found at this temple. It is also believed that the Mahalakshmi and Jyotirling idols at this place are around 2,500 years old.
