The main deity of this temple is Ezhuthari Nathar, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva faces East direction and He is swayambhu.
Goddess Nithya Kalyani and Sugantha Kundalambal are consorts of Ezhuthari Nathar. Mother Nithya Kalyani blesses the devotees ever in her wedding posture. Mother Sugantha Kundalambal graces the devotees in penance posture.

Architecture
The temple faces East direction and built in Dravidian style of architecture. It has 5-tier Raja gopuram and there is no flag post (Dwaja sthambam) here. It has 2 Prakarams and a Gajaprashta Vimanam with 5 Kalasams over the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco images on the Vimanam illustrate the Sthala purana. The temple wall has engravings from the Chola and Vijayanagar periods. Inscriptions from the Chola and Vijayanagar periods are found in Thiruinnambar temple. A Chola inscription calls this place as “Vadakarai Innambar Naattu Innambar”. There are two stone inscriptions in this temple which date back to the periods of Chola King Rajakesari Varman and Vijayanagara King Veera Kampanna Udayar. Ezhutharinathar (Lord Shiva) in the form of lingam made by granite. There is a koneru named as Iravadha theertham.
Religious Significance
The king ruling this place asked his accountant to submit the temple accounts to him. The books were not up to date. He was reluctant to go before the king. Next day, the king called the accountant and paid rich tributes saying that of the temple accounts maintained so far, his was perfect and correct. The accountant came to know that it was Lord’s grace that he went and submitted the books. As Lord wrote His own temple accounts, He is praised as Ezhuthari Nathar.
History
The temple was built 7th century C.E. by Cholas. Sun worshipped Lord Shiva in this holy land. Airavatha, Lord Indra’s white Elephant is believed to have worshiped Lord Shiva here at Thiruinnambar. Sage Agastya is said to have worshiped and received guidance here at Thiruinnambar.
