Architecture

The temple is facing East direction and built in Dravidian style of architecture. It has a Maha mandapam.

Religious Significance

Earlier, Lord Vinayaka had his place outside the palace-Kottai, hence was praised as Kottai Vasal Vinayaka. Sethupathi kings are noted to be the first to begin any auspicious scheme. (It is noteworthy that they were instrumental for the launch of the Swadeshi Navigation Company planned and executed by the great patriot and Freedom Fighter of Tamilnadu, Kappalottia Thamizhan V.O. Chidambaram Pillai). They succeeded in all their plans by worshipping Lord Vinayaka. Irritated by the huge devotee crowd to the temple, an English official then ordered the demolition of the Komukam discharging the abishek theertha from the temple, on the false ground that it was inconvenient for smooth traffic. Lord Kottai Vasal Vinayaka appeared in the dream of the official. The official understood that Vinayaka was directing him to withdraw the demolition order. He did obediently the next morning.

History

The temple was built 1000 years ago.
