Architecture
Sri Krishna Temple has a Dwaja Stambham and a Kalyanamandapam. It is located on the banks of Thodupuzhayar, a tributary of river Muvattupuzha. This temple is constructed in typical Kerala style of architecture.
MYTHS - The origin of the temple is associated with many myths which date backs to the ancient era. Popular myths has it that once a wandering Brahmin who was on a pilgrimage to the various temples reached here and got a divine vision of Lord Krishna. After getting the vision of Krishna, he purified his body in the nearby river (Thodupuzhayar) and offered Nivedyam to the deity by lighting a lamp. This was on the day of Chothi in the Malayalam month of Meenam. This incident is commonly believed to be the prime reason for the temple's origin. Later, the raja of Keezhmalanadu constructed a shrine for the deity and consecrated an idol.
Religious Significance
There is an exciting legend behind the deity. A village named Laxmi was very rich in Vedic scholars, artists and variety of eminent personalities. A man with abundant Vedic knowledge decided to go for Sanyasam (hermit). During his travel he reached Todupuzha and meditated upon Lord Krishna. During the meditation he had a vision of Lord Krishna splitting the beak of an Owl when it attempted to swallow Him. He opened the eyes and found Lord Krishna standing before him who soon disappeared. The Sanyasi (hermit) lit a lamp at the place where the Lord was standing. During this period Kizhmalanadu King visited the place and constructed a temple.
History
Sree Krishna Temple was built in 11th Century by Keezhmalanadu King and Irinjalakuda Nedumbilly Tharananallur Mana is the contributor of this temple.
