Architecture

This temple of Lord Mahadev is situated on the hill 1,050 m above sea level. Is at a height. To reach the temple, one has to climb about 400 steps. A little further up is the Khadkeshwar Temple. There are two Shivlings in the gabhara of the temple. They are considered to be the symbol of Shiva Parvati. the temple is build from stone but is now pained with color. The pinnacle of this temple is a masterpiece of architecture. The peak is very delicately carved. There are many lighthouses in the temple premises . To the west of this temple is a Hemadpanthi temple of Amruteshwar. Another feature of the temple is the large bells here. The temple has received one of these bells from the British. There are many shivlingas (around 8) in the temple. thats why this temple is also known as dakshin kailash. In the inner sanctum, there are 2 shivling and 5 nandi statues.

Religious Significance

Once the lords shiva and parwati playing the game named Saripath. Parwati won the game and teased lord shiva. As shiv were innocent and he left this place angrily (called as Gupt Mahadev) and went to the top of shinganapur. To bring them (Shiva and Parvati) together again lord vishnu and laxmi tied their knot once again. Hence this is the Grand Marriage at shinganapur where shiv and parvati get married. This is arranged in every hindu new year started of chaitra month of eighth day after the Gudhi padhwa event on chaitra ashtami at time of 12.00 PM at Temple of Shikhar Shinganapur. On the 11th day of new year the Indore's king comes along with the horse and pray (Abhishek) in the temple of lord shiva with full dressing of suit and shoes. The Kawad Yatra enterns into shinganapur for worshipping lord shiva and end of chaitra yatra.

History

Shambhu Mahadev of Shikhar Shinganapur is a deity of many in Maharashtra . It is said that both this temple of Mahadev and the village of Shinganapur were built by the Sindhan king of the Yadav clan. Singhan Raja of the Yadav family of Devagiri had come and lived here. He founded the village of Shinganapur. Since Shambhu Mahadev is the deity of the Bhosle family, Maloji Raje Bhosale comes here with his family for Devdarshan. Seeing the plight of the devotees due to water scarcity, Maloji Raja visited here in In 1600, a large pond was built here, called Pushkartirtha; It is now called Shivteerth.
