Dress Code

  • For men the dress code is Shirt & Trouser, Dhoti or Pyjamas with upper cloth.
  • For women the preferred dress code is saree or half-saree with blouse or chudidhar with pyjama and upper cloth. These rules are applicable for foreigners also.
  • Shorts, mini-skirts, middies, sleeveless tops, low-waist jeans and short-length T-shirts are not allowed.
  • Pilgrims/visitors will not be allowed inside the temple if dress code is not followed.

Architecture

The structure of the temple is very simple. It is a rectangular building built of big grey stone blocks. The temple consists of two units, the sanctum and the front hall. There are two huge wooden doors at the entrance. Inside the sanctum is the awe inspiring deity. The Pralaya Varahaswamy is in a sitting pose with goddess Bhoodevi seated on its left lap.  According to the inscription in the Temple, it was renovated by the Hoysala King Ballala and an Agrahara was set up by him.Later the temple came under the Wodeyars of Mysore,which was gifted to their ‘Raja-Guru’ – Sri Sri Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Mutt. 

History

This famous temple was constructed during the Chola rule in Karnataka and patronized by Hoysala, Vijayanagara and Mysore Rulers. Now,the temple has been renovated by the grace of Perumal and Acharya Sarvabhouma Srimadh Abhinava Vagisha Brahmatantra Swantra Parakala Jiyar.
