Religious Significance

Legend has it that once the trinity Lakshmi, Parvati and Saraswati were eager to test the chastity of goddess Anusuiya. After this he sent the trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Then he reached the ashram of Goddess Anusuyan in the guise of a sage and asked to be breastfed in alms. Then Goddess Anusuiya, in the strength of her virtuous nature, made all the three gods into children and breastfed them. Similarly, after the passage of many months, when the three gods did not return to their world, their wives prayed to Goddess Anusuyan and got their husbands back. Then the three gods granted him a boon that from the share of those three, Goddess Anusuiya would get the son's gem. After this Lord Dattatreya was born.
