The main deity of this temple is Lord Kirateshwar Mahadev who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. There are two other beautiful shrines that contain idols of Goddess Durga and Lord Rama.

Dress Code

  • For men the dress code is Shirt & Trouser, Dhoti or Pyjamas with upper cloth.
  • For women the preferred dress code is saree or half-saree with blouse or chudidhar with pyjama and upper cloth.
  • Shorts, mini-skirts, middies, sleeveless tops, low-waist jeans and short-length T-shirts are not allowed.
  • The weather is cold throughout the year. Rainfalls and snowfalls often occur there. one should wear proper winter clothes with mufflers and gloves. An umbrella is also a must to carry.

  • Do bathe and wear clean clothes before you enter the temple.
  • Do respect ancient customs and co-piligrims while at temple.
  • Smoking and drinking is prohibited in this temple.

Architecture

The architecture of the Kirateshwar Mahadev temple resembles to look like a grand and well planned one. When you enter inside the temple you shall be able to find the idol of Lord Shiva. The temple was build centuries ago and so it reflects the part and role it played in the epic “Mahabharatha”. When you first look at the temple you might find it to look like any other temple but as and when you observe the details of it then you will surely realize that it is not an ordinary temple. The architecture of the temple is truly huge and spacious. The temple is entirely built of small bricks, which helps to give that texture and look to this masterpiece. The temple is situated at a little height above the ground level and one shall have to climb up some stairs to reach it.

Religious Significance

According to the Hindu mythology, pleased with Arjuna’s hard penance and devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before him in the very spot where the temple lies as a Kirat or hunter and blessed him with success in the Mahabharat War. Long time ago as the people found miraculously existed a stone manifesting Shiva Ling. The said Shiv Ling is the main effigy of worship.
