God

Bada Ganpati Temple is dedicated to Lord Vinayaka. Here deity is in 25 feet height and the construction material used in carving the deity of Lord Ganesha comprised limestone, jaggery, bricks, soil and water. Soil used for construction of this idol was brought from Varanasi and Mathura. The frame of the deity was made of metals such as gold, silver and other metals.

Architecture

Bada in Hindi means large so the temple is known as Bada Ganapati Temple, since it encloses the large statue of Lord Ganapati Bappa.

Religious Significance

There is a legend about Shri Dadhich, a resident of the nearby city of Avantika or Ujjain who had a vision of the Lord Ganesha in his dream. Taking it as a spiritual blessing, he decided to pay tribute to the Lord by building a gigantic idol of him in the hopes that the God will bless him.

History

Bada Ganpati was built during the reign of Queen Ahilya Bai Holkar in 1875 and family members Holkar Dynasty are the contributors of this temple.
