Architecture

Chennakesavasvami Temple is facing towards South direction and has a wooden dhavajastambha of about twenty feet is in front of the Mukamandapa. The walls of Garbhagriha are plain and Garbhagriha is square on plan. The doorway two sides dvarapala figures of Jaya and Vijayulu and the earliest epigraph dated in eight century A.D. records the name Uttamaditya Maharaja. The Mukamandapa consists of twenty pillars in four rows and the mantapa is open on the side. But the pillars and their carving reveal a later date, probably of 12th and 13th centuries A.D. The vimana of the temple is in one tala built of sand stone, brick and mortar.
