Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy is presiding deity of this temple, he is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The idol of the Lord Venkateswara has been established by Kripacharya, hence the ancient name of Devuni Kadapa is also mentioned in puranas as “Kripavathi Kshetram”.
Goddess padmavathi has a separate shrine in temple.

Architecture
The main entrance with beautiful Gopuram is lofty with South indian style of architecture. Five tier gopuram with sculptures of god (Vishnu forms) along with goddess and 5 kalasas on the top. In temple premises Dhwajastambham and Balipeetham is there, the statue of Lord Hanuman is situated at a high place on the wall at the back of the god. One should not miss the design on the temple walls and sculptures on the pillars and Mukha mandapam inside the temple. Sri Matla Anantha Raju constructed the compound wall of the temple.
In 1396, Sri Aranam Sarvappa offered crown to god, In 1480, Sri Sadasiva Deva Maharaya donated some property to the deity and in 1484 Maha Mandaleswara Timmaya Deva Maharaj offered the income that comes from a village in udayagiriseema to the temple. In 1476, Sri Chinna Avubhala Raju donated some land for Lord’s garden and four various other devotees donated property to this temple. In 1629, Sri Maha Mandaleswara Obula Raju provided ‘Maanyam’ to the lord. These details are written in inscriptions found on the walls of the temple. The Mukha mandapam of the temple is carved with beautiful images of gods, there is a sculpture of dancing Vigneshwara, a master piece of those times, in the Mukha mandapam. The ‘Murthis’ of a couple located on a pillar in the temple belongs to the dynasty of the Kings who constructed the temple, Pushkarini at Devuni Kadapa belongs to 6th century.
History
The place Kadapa is named after the word Gadapa which is originated from the word “Devuni Gadapa” meaning “Entrance for Lord Venkateswara Swamy”. In olden days, pilgrims visit this temple before starting their journey towards Tirumala. Temple faces West direction and was built in Vijayanagara style of architecture. According to Kyfiyat of Kadapa Shahar, Sage Kripacharya while touring South of Bharatha Khanda found the idol of this temple here and installed it in this place. In puranas, Devuni kadapa is mentioned as “Kripavathi Kshetram”. During 15th and 16th centuries A.D. this temple was improved by Vijayanagara Kings and Matli Kings. Tallapaka Annamacharya, Adi Sankaracharya of Advaita mutt, heads of Ahobilam mutt and Mahakavi Kshetrayya visited this place.
