Religious Significance
Thousands of years ago a Brahmin worshipped Mookambika at a temple in Kollur very dedicatedly, when day when it was his turn to return back home to his native at Maruthwa Mala, he was unable to part from the goddess then it so happened that the Brahmin had a dream in which goddess promised to come along with him back home and so entered into the idol which he was worshipping daily. To his pretty happiness he started his journey to his village with the idol, on the way he stopped at a place called Thombil Kottaram to rest for few days. When he decided to continue his journey the he was unable to move the idol from the place where he placed it in Kottaram that very night he had a dream saying goddess was happy to stay back in the place and have no desire to move from that place. As time passed the Brahmin died and worship of deity was neglected, later goddess entered a member of Thombil family and guided them to build a temple there which was 5kms away from present temple. Later according to the order of the king the deity was shifted to the present temple by the chief race of Thombil family.
