Architecture

The Moti Dungri Ganesh temple is located on the top of a small hill in Jaipur, Rajasthan and is surrounded by a beautiful palace of the same name. This palace surrounding the temple premises resembles the look of a Scottish castle. But the palace is not open for the visitors as it is considered as a private property. The temple reflects the modern Indian architecture and is built on an area covering around two kilometers. There are three domes in the temple which symbolizes the three main religions of our country. This temple is perfect combination of Indian, Islamic as well as western representations which are characterized by its three domes. It was built using limestone and marble, the temple is built of stone carvings and is also known for its exquisite lattice work on the marble. You will also see many mythological images engraved on the marble stones which are very fascinating to the art lovers. The magnificent architecture of the temple attracts the visitors and is surely breathtaking.

Religious Significance

The history of the temple states that one day the King of Mewar was going back to his palace after a long tiring journey and he was carrying a Ganesh idol on a bullock cart. The king wanted to build a temple and had decided that wherever the cart would stop for the first time that would be the place of the temple. As per the legends the cart stopped at the bottom of the Moti Dungri hills and this is the place where we see the Ganesh temple today.

History

The icon of the god Ganesha established in the temple is said to be more than five-hundred years old and was brought here in 1761 by Seth Jai Ram Pallival who was accompanying Maharaja Madho Singh-I, from Udaipur. It was brought to Udaipur from Gujarat. The temple was built under Pallival's supervision.
