Architecture
Origin of the Name - The fourth son of the Sage, cut off his mother's head following the father's orders. But very troubled by his actions, Parashuram went a little away from the ashram and established a Shivalinga and started worshiping Lord Shiva. So, Lord Parshuram himself did penance by establishing Shivalinga here. According to a local tradition, the Sage Parashurama founded a Shiva temple here and named the place Shivapuri which in process of time became changed to Shivpura and then got shortened to Pura. Temple is constructed in North Indian style of architecture.
Religious Significance
It is said that at this place, Lord Parasurama's father Jamdagni lived with his wife Renuka. One day when Rishi Jamdagni was not at home then King Sahasra bahu of Hastinapur Bahu came in the hut of Rishi Renuka has greatly aprreciated by the grace of the Kamadhenu Cow, available in the ashramam. Sahashra Bahu asked for a Cow from Renuka who he refused to give After which the king tried to force Cow, but they did not succeed in doing so. In the end, the king took Renuka with him and left the Cow and took him to a room. The queen of the king did not like this thing and she free up Renuka with the help of her sister at night. After being freed from there, Renuka reached her ashram directly and told Jamdagni everything. But the Sage asked him to leave the cottage because he had done wrong by staying out with another man one night, according to him. Even when Rishi said repeatedly, when Renuka was not ready to go to the ashram, Rishi asked his sons to cut off his head. Three older sons refused to cut their mother's head but Parashuram, the fourth son of the Sage, cut off his mother's head following the father's orders.
But very troubled by his actions, Parashuram went a little away from the ashram and established a Shivalinga and started worshiping Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva, appearing with worship, appeared and asked Parashuraman to ask for boon. On which Parshuram said that he should resurrect their mother. Lord Shiva gave life to his mother and provided him with a fencing. Shiva said that he will always be victorious in the battle that he will take part in this battle. From this point onwards, Lord Parashuram killed 21 Kshatriyas, whose atrocities were troubling by the people. On the place where they worshiped Lord Shiva, a huge temple was built there. Later this temple became obsolete. Once a queen passed with her convoy there, her Elephants and horses stopped there and refused to move forward. When the Queen digged there, Shivling came out there. With the grace of Shiva, the queen built a huge temple there, which is called the temple of Paramahadev today.
