Ranbireshwar is the main deity of this temple, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Here Lord is in form of Lingam with 8 feet high and is made from single black stone.

  • In Ranbireshwar Temple, there are twelve Shiva lingams of crystal measuring 12" to 18" and galleries with thousands of ‘saligrams’ fixed on stone slabs.

  • For men the dress code is Shirt & Trouser, Dhoti or Pyjamas with upper cloth.
  • For women the preferred dress code is saree or half-saree with blouse or chudidhar with pyjama and upper cloth.
  • Shorts, mini-skirts, middies, sleeveless tops, low-waist jeans and short-length T-shirts are not allowed.
  • The weather is cold throughout the year. Rainfalls and snowfalls often occur there. one should wear proper winter clothes with mufflers and gloves. An umbrella is also a must to carry.

Architecture

The temple is that three of its walls are gold clad and two of the walls are adorned with the images of Ganesha and Kartikeya. There are several Shiva lingas in the shrine along with a Nandi Bull. Depicting the art and architecture of 1883, it offers a marvellous view of isolated forested hills. Standing affirm as tall as 75 meters high, the temple itself is a local landmark.

History

In 19th century the temple was built and the magnificent temple is flanked throughout the year by the devotees who gather in large numbers to offer prayers. Maharaja Ranbir Singh is one who has built the temple who is one of the ancestors of the Dogra rulers of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is a part of the holy trinity of the Hindu mythology. In the year 1883, the construction of Ranbireshwar temple was completed.
