  • It is said that Guru Sahib while returning to punjab via Kashmir stayed here.
  • During Singh Sabha Movement when statues were removed from Gurdwaras this statue got unnoticed thus got intact. Very few people know about this statue.

Dress Code

  • For men the dress code is Shirt & Trouser, Dhoti or Pyjamas with upper cloth.
  • For women the preferred dress code is saree or half-saree with blouse or chudidhar with pyjama and upper cloth.
  • Shorts, mini-skirts, middies, sleeveless tops, low-waist jeans and short-length T-shirts are not allowed.
  • The weather is cold throughout the year. Rainfalls and snowfalls often occur there. one should wear proper winter clothes with mufflers and gloves. An umbrella is also a must to carry.

  • Do respect ancient customs and co-piligrims while at temple.
  • Smoking and drinking is prohibited in this temple.

Architecture

The statue and in fact the whole Gurudwara was constructed by Maharaja Partap Singh. With a medieval style of construction, the Gurudwara of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is a perfect place to worship in tranquility. The hot springs and the beautiful temple will definitely give you the best feeling. Constructed out of pure white marble, the idol of Shri Guru Nanak is three feet high. The mighty Maharaja Partap Singh had erected the beautiful statue to pay obeisance to the great religious leader of the Sikhs, Guru Nanak Dev ji. Apart from the religious significance of the holy shrine, Gurdwara Shri Guru Nanak Devji is noted for its brilliant architectural splendor that reflects the rich artistic skill and imaginative creative of the ancient times. Unaltered and unaffected by natural calamities and disturbances in the political and social scenario of Jammu and Kashmir, Gurdwara Shri Guru Nanak Devji bears relics to the rich religious ancestry and historical legacy of the state.

History

The holy place was designed back in the 16th century when Guru Nanak visited Manikaran. During Third Udasi, Guru Nanak Dev ji came to this place in 1574 Bikrami with his disciples Bhai Bala & Bhai Mardana.
