  • In this temple is the very impressive Durbar Hall of Radha-Raman, called the Vasanti Kamra room. This room is known at the yellow room, because it has a completely yellow decor.
  • There are various beautiful Belgium chandeliers in this hall. It is opened only twice a year: two days during Vasant Panchami and for the two days before Balarama’s Appearance Day, during the Jhulan Yatra swing festival. The Deities of the temple are brought to this room at these times.

Architecture

This temple was named Shahji because it was built by a merchant named “Shah Kundan Lal".  The temple is also known as the Shahji temple, Tera Kamba (twisted pillars) temple and the Saha Bihari Lal Temple.It is known as the twisted pillars temple, because the pillars in this temple are made of beautiful white twisted marble. The temple is a magnificent structure and displays impressive architectural skills. The temple is facing in South direction and built in uniquely blends Mughal, Greek and Hindu architecture. It has spiral columns each 15 feet high. The ceiling and the walls have been painted with multicolored paintings. The Singhasan (throne), the doors, several mirrors some as big as ten feet high are all gold plated. Although being older than 140 years they still glitter with amazing grandeur and brightness. There are some striking paintings as well which adorn the interior of the temple. On the interior of the walls and on the ceiling, are beautiful paintings that explain the stories from the life of Lord Krishna. With the image of beautiful marble paintings of women playing musical instruments and the delicate figure of Radha dancing joyfully with her beloved Krishna, etched on the mind, one enters the sanctum sanctorum.

History

The temple was built in 1876 by the wealthy merchant the name Shah Kundan Lal of Lucknow.
