Presiding deity Sri Soumyanatha Swamy is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He faces East direction, idol is Seven-foot-tall. Sri Soumyanatha Swamy salagramadhara with four hands one holding a Sudarshana chakram and another a Panchajanya sankham. Another deities of this temple prayoga Narasimha Swamy, Vinayaka Swamy and Anjaneya Swamy.
Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi ammavaru holding two lotuses is seen on the chest of the presiding deity.

Architecture
"Soumya" means "Lakshmi Devi" so the Lord being adipathi of Goddess is named as Soumyanatha Swamy. Temple faces East direction and was built in Chola style of architecture.This temple has four Rajagopurams, which stands in four directions. Main gopuram was built by the King Someswara III in the 12th Century, South facing gopuram was built during the Vijayanagara period. There is a deepa sthambham with four lion-heads sculpted on it. There is also a high Dhwajasthambham, Sri Yoga Narasimha Swamy is located at the entrance of the sanctorum.
The walls of the temple are adorned with images of sun, moon and fish. The temple has several inscriptions in tamil on its walls, which dates from 10th to 17th Century. As per inscriptions on the temple walls, this temple holds 120 acres of agriculture lands, which is meant for the development and maintenance of temple activities. The mandapa of temple is supported on 108 beautiful pillars which have lions carved at their bases. The pillars of the mandapam (porch) have lion’s heads at the bottom of the pillar.There is also a small pond opposite to Gali gopuram, within temple premises. The entire temple is constructed using red-stone.
History
This temple was built by cholas in the 11th century. During later centuries Pandyas, Kakatiyas, Vijayanagara kings, Pottapi Kings, Nellore Cholas and Matli Kings also contributed to the development of the temple. Great poet Annamayya praised Sri Soumyanatha Swamy with 16 of his sankeertanas.
