Architecture

One fine day Villagers living near by heard huge noise from a Tamarind tree. The Villagers gathered around Tree to inspect and surprised to see Vishnu Idol lying inside the Tree hole. Hence the name Chinthala Venkataramana Swamy Temple. The Raja gopuram faces the east and is a solid structure, built using stone and brick. The stone part contains figures of Vidyadhara, Apsaras and Avatars, Elephants, Horses arranged in different levels. Behind the Mukhamandapa is a Rangamandapa, which has scenes of the Ramayana and rare sculptures of the Vishnu avatars, the Mukhamandapa has forty pillars in the Vijayanagar style. In the temple courtyard Dhwaja Stambham is there, which is more than the height of temple walls. Pillars and Temple walls were sculptured with the images from the epics of Ramayana, Mahabharatha and Bhagavatha. These sculptures were carved in a sequence which narrates the epics. One should not miss the carvings of Kaliya Mardhana Krishna roopam from the Mahabharth and sequences from the Ramayana on the walls of the corridor (mantap). There is an octagonal shaped flower on the roof of the corridor and the temple was built in time of Vijayanagar dynasty.
