Religious Significance

According to legend, In tretayuga while Sri Rama is on Aranyavasa, he reached this hill along with Sri Seetadevi and Sri Lakshmana Swamy and hosted by the great sages and saint’s who were performing penance here.

Legends : According to the Thirumala stala Purana, the legend of Venkateswara's Avatar is as follows once, some sages lead by Kashyapa started to carry out a sacrifice in the depository of the river Ganges. Sage Naradha visited the sages and inquired them the reason for performing the sacrifice.Unable to answer the query the rishis went to Sage Bhriugu, who in keeping with the Vedas is considered to have an extra eye in the sole of his foot. To find an answer after an instant ascertaining of actuality, Sage Bhriugu first went to Satyaloga, the house of Lord Bramha. At Satyaloka, he found Lord Brahma reciting the four Vedas in praise of Lord Narayana, with each of his four heads and attended upon by Saraswati. Lord Brahma did not mark of Bhriugu providing obeisance. Witnessing that Lord Brahma was unfit for worship, Bhriugu left Satyaloga for Kailasha, the house of Lord Shiva. At Kailasha Bhriugu found God Shiva with Goddess Parvathi and hence did not observe his presence. Bhriugu then left for Vaikundham, the house of Lord Vishnu. At Vaikundham, Lord Vishnu was relaxing on Adhisesha with Goddess Shri Mahalaxmi in service at his foot.Even Lord Vishnu did not notice him the sage was furious and kicked the Lord in his chest, the place where Goddess Mahalaxmi resides. Lord Vishnu in an effort to appease the sage, got hold of the sage's legs and began to press his legs gently in a way that was comforting the sage. During this act, he poked the additional eye that was present in the sole of Bhrigu's foot. The additional eye is believed to represent the sage's egotism. The sage then realised his grave mistake and apologized to Vishnu. There upon, the sage complete that Lord Vishnu was the foremost supreme of the Trimurti and told the rishis the same.
