Architecture

Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple has a 5 tier Rajagopuram and constructed in Dravidian style of architecture. In this temple Shiva Linga is usually either Black or White in color and made in marble.

Religious Significance

According to legends Lord Rama, after killing the demon Ravana came here to free himself for sins of killing a Brahmin and ardent Lord Shiva follower. He selected the valley to install Shiva Lingam. For this, he then sent Hanuman to get a Shivalingam for Varanasi. However, Hanuman was late in bringing the lingam. As the auspicious hour for installing the lingam came near, Lord Shiva appeared before Lord Ram presenting him with a lingam for the same purpose. This is the reason why the temple is also known with the name of Swayambhu Linga as well as Rama lingeswara as Lord himself installed the Lord Shiva lingam.

History

This temple was built in 4th Century by Vishnukundin Kings “Vishnukundins” dynasty and Vishnukundin Kings are the contributors.
