Buchireddypalem, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India
The Kanigiri Reservoir is a large water tank in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The place is situated in the North-West of Buchireddipalem, at a distance of about 22 kms from the Nellore railway station at Santhapet. Designed by British irrigation engineer, Sir Arthur Cotton, in the colonial era, the Kanigiri Reservoir is a big body of water with a check dam. The reservoir has a boundary of small shrubs and other forms of greenery which greatly adds to its natural beauty. The check dam has water on one side, and a number of old rocks on the other. The reservoir has been and continues to be an important source of water for irrigation purposes across several villages in the district of Nellore. Fields of paddy and other crops fed by the water from Kanigiri Reservoir can be seen from a temple in the area. There is also a shivalingam on the banks of the reservoir.
