Architecture

This is a very old temple, the antiquity of which is fabulous. The pinnacle of the temple (Shikhar) is magnificent. There are sixteen pillars supporting the Shikhar which has become extremely attractive because of the statuettes incurved thereon. The Sanctum Sanctorum, circumbulatory path, Jagmohan there in are a fine example of elegant architecture in marble. Adjacent is the temple Laxmi Narayan Ji. On the front gateway beautiful figures and statuettes have been incurved.

Religious Significance

According to a legend, an Apsara named Urvashi was dancing in Lord Indra's darbar. Once she laughed at Lord Indra, upset by her behaviour, Lord Indra cursed her and threw her out of his kingdom for 12 years. She pleaded to Indra. Later, he told her to go to the earth. On earth, she served the saints, sages and earned the blessings in reward. One day King Digva saw her in the garden. He was mesmerised by her beauty. King Digva invited Urvashi to his palace. Apsara refused his invitation and told the king that she belongs to Lord Indra. King Digva challenged Lord Indra to fight. Being offended, Apsara Urvashi curses the king to suffer from leprosy. He became a leper as he had offended the Apsara. To get rid of leprosy, the king offered intense penance and austerities. Lord Vishnu appeared in front of him and blessed him. Lord Vishnu told the king about a buried idol on the bank of the river and he was asked to install that idol in a temple. When king Digva installed the idol installed, he got cured of his illness.

History

The temple was supposedly built by King Digva 5600 years ago.
