Architecture

Fort (Durga in Kannada) present at the top of the hill near to Kabbal village. Kabbal Durga is in village named Kabbalu, this is major Hindu temple for around 28 villages in this area deity is called as amma, so the name Kabbalamma came. Shree Kabbalamma Temple is facing in East direction and constructed with Granite stones. The gopuras striking features of this temple, which is built in a Dravidian architectural style. The pillars of hall at front of the sanctum has designed with flowers and deities sculptures on bottom of the pillars. The main gateway to this temple is occupied by a large pillared mandapa (Porch). it has got beautiful stone art on these pillars and has a separate covered mandapa.

Religious Significance

According to the legends, once Goddess Kabbalamma was in search of a place to reside. She reached the village Kabbalu. Goddess Kabbalamma took the permission of Basaveshwara and resided in the village. All the important first pujas are first performed to Basaveswara and then to Goddess Kabbalamma. During the British rule, offenders were punished by pushing them from top of hill so that the offenders will die without any chance to survive. One such convicted person was saved by praying to Goddess Kabalamma and getting his life saved from punishment, he offered a golden crown to Kabalamma Devi.
