Sri Aprameya Swamy is the main deity of this temple, who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Swamy standing posture with shanku chakra in upper two hands and Gadha and padma in the lower hands. The idol is in Abhayahastha posture i.e., his two upper arms are holding the Shanka (conch shell) and Chakra (disc) and the lower arms are holding the Gadha (mace) and Hastha (assuring hands). The idol of lord Aprameya is beautifully decorated with Jewellery.

Goddess

Goddess Sridevi and Bhoodevi idols are along with Lord Vishnu.

Interesting Facts

The temple architecture is built in such a way that the sun rays at sunrise fall directly on the garbhagudi (sanctum sanctorum) of lord Rama Aprameya during April/May.

Dress Code

For men the dress code is Shirt & Trouser, Dhoti or Pyjamas with upper cloth.
For women the preferred dress code is saree or half-saree with blouse or chudidhar with pyjama and upper cloth.
These rules are applicable for foreigners also. Shorts, mini-skirts, middies, sleeveless tops, low-waist jeans and short-length T-shirts are not allowed.
Pilgrims/visitors will not be allowed inside the temple if dress code is not followed.

Architecture

Sri Rama had stayed here for many years and worshipped the Lord here and hence Sri Aprameya swamy. He is also called Sri Rama Priya swamy. Sri Aprameya Swamy Temple is facing in East and there is tall stone dwajasthambam in front of the temple, Hanuman carved at the base of Dhwaja pillar. A tall Deepasthambham is infront of gopuram. The temple with massive pillars and long mandapams of the typical Chola architecture. The Verandahs of this temple has large number of pillars. Pillars are thick in size carved with god and goddess of hindu deities, especially avataras of lord Vishnu, Garuda, Hanuman, flowers and animals. Outside the temple is a mandapam dedicated to and called "Purandara dasa mandapa" and the utsava murthy (a small replica of the main idol for taking on a procession in a chariot) is placed in the sandalwood Shukanasika Mantapa (pedestal). Huge temple is built on sand and does not have any solid foundation. The idol is carved out of the Saligrama stone found in river Gandaki.

Koneru : Vishnu Theertham is also in the North-Western direction of the temple but outside its precincts. Goddess Maha Lakshmi was born in a Lotus flower in this punya Theertham and hence this Theertham is also known as Kamala Theertham. To the North East of the temple devotees can find Brahma Theertham. Shambhu Theertham is at the South Eastern direction. To the East of this place flows the Nirmala River. It is also known as Kanva Nadhi as Sage Kanva performed Poojas and Homams on its banks. It is believed that a person who takes a dip in its holy waters will be rid of his Panchamahapathakas.

Religious Significance

Lord Aprameya was worshipped by King Vijyapala in Krutha Yuga, Sage Kanva in Thretha Yuga, Sage LambhaShrava in Dwapara Yuga and Vigyanaeshwara in Kali Yuga. Sage Kapila who was Sriman Narayan’s avatar made Common people understand Lord Aprameya’s Kalyana Gunas and gave Upadesha to attain Mukthi. It is believed that even today the Sage Kapila, Sage Kanva are staying here and worshipping lord Aprameya. Once temple is locked by priest in the night after Arthjama, we can hear the sound of door opening in Garbha Gruha and temple bell rings, which indicated the Amara Jeevi sages are praying Lord Aprameya in ekantha.

Legends of the place : There was once a rich woman, who resided in Bhadrachalam, on the banks of River Godavari in Andhra Pradesh. She lost her vision. Our Navaneetha Chora appeared in her dream and asked her to come to Dodda Mallur and do seva to him following which she made enquiries about this place and reached Mallur. She prayed Sri Krishna day in and day out. The Lord then restored her eyesight. From that day on, she would adorn the temple and sanctorum entrances with Kolam (Rangoli) and worship him. Even though she was rich, she lead an austere life. She would subsist on alms from which she would still save some amount of money for Lord Krishna. The little Krishna would then appear in her dreams and ask her for jewelry. She would then have the jewelry made as per the Lord’s demands and offer it to him. She renovated the Garbha Griham, Maha Dwaram, etc. She attained the lotus feet of the Lord doing seva to Him, all her life. History

There is also historical evidence that Vishishta Advaitha Saint Sri Ramanujacharya worshipped the lord in the temple during his piligrimage to Karnataka and that the famous composer Sri Purandaradasa was so inspired and ecstatic by seeing Ambegalu Krishna, that he penned the famous song “Jagadoddharana Adisidalu Yashoda”. To commemorate him and his kriti-lyrics there is a Purandaradasa Mantapam facing the Rajagopuram. This temple was built in 10th century by Chola king Rajendra Simha.
