The main deity of this Mahadeshwara Swamy, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The Shiva Linga has the face of Lord Shiva on the front side of this Linga. This is also seen with a silver metal finishing on this sculpture. The Linga, worshipped now in the Garbha Gudi, is a self developed (Swayambhu) one.

  • Surrounded by 77 hills in the Eastern Ghats, the height of the hill is about 930 m (3000 ft) above the sea level.

Dress Code

Architecture

Male Mahadeshwara Hills or Malai (Male) Mahadeshwara Betta or M.M Hills, the word Malai means Hills, Incarnation of Lord Shiva as a “Lingayat saint Mahadeshwara". Travelled through the hills and the surroundings area, spent his childhood, youth and aged life in between these hills. This temple is facing in West and built in the Dravidian style. It has 9 stories built in a tiered tower structure. There are many miniature works carved on these towers and there are doors in the center of each stories of this tower. There are many frieze and motifs seen on this tower. Inside this temple there are large mandapas for serving food for thousand devotees at a time, this temple is fenced from all sides. This is found in a square shape where the two minarets are built inside this temple and few modern complexes are also built here to meet the needs of the devotees. Antaragange (Ganges from deep) near the temple, this is a peculiar water flow from the ground arises during the entire year and the origin is not yet known. Mahadeswara theppothsava pond also there.

Religious Significance

Mahadeshwara lived in this place and performed penance. As mentioned in Janapada Mahakavya Shri Male Mahadeshwara is the son of the couple of Shri Chandrashekara Murthy and Smt. Uttarajamma and has descended to earth and has for the fist time seen near Shri Shailadha Mallikarjuna Linga, nearly 600 years ago has come through Sutturu, Kunduru, then to the centre of Seven Hills, this place being felt to be comfortable desired to stay in the place of temple and incarnation of Lord Eswara and kept tiger as his Vehicle. Travelled through the hills and the surroundings area, spent his childhood, youth and aged life in between the hills and on the basis of his yogi powers has displayed his various miracles. He has transformed the life of the people belonging to Beda and Soliga Community and has solved the problems through his yogic powers and has converted the people by Lingadharana as Veerashaiva philosophy and he has placed the people belonging to Bedagampana alone should be allowed to perform puja and others to do ceremonies and religious activities and elevated from human beings to that of devatha and settled in the hearts of his devotees by accepting the offering of puja heartly and the persons staying in between the hills Shri Male Mahadeshwara Swamy.

History

This temple was built in 15th century by Kuruba Gowda's Junje Gowda.
