Architecture

Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple was built in Kalyana Chalukya sculpture style of architecture and deity was made with Black Stone. The pillars and the crevices also inherit the artistic sculptures. The four pillars in the Central Hall or the Navranga act as the object of study for the students of arts and crafts. These pillars happen to interest the visitors more from the fact that these are carved out of single blocks of stone itself. The pillars and the walls of the hall are adorned with images of Lord Narasimha, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva in various poses. Numerous images of Lord Varaha, Lord Nataraja, Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Mahishasura Mardini and Goddess Gaja Lakshmi can also been seen on the side walls.

History

The temple was built in 11th century by Valiant Chalukyas and Chalukyan kings are the contributors of this temple. The temple had witnessed the onslaught of Mughals and some of the idols and parts of the structure were destroyed in the attack.
