God

Ranganatha Swamy is the main deity of this temple, who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The idol of Sri Ranganathaswamy was about two feet, carved out of a single black stone. Idol is beautifully carved, with wonderfully etched features. Lord Ranganathar appears in a relaxed manner with one of his right hands supporting his head, another resting on his legs.

Interesting Facts

  • The utsava moorthy, idol of Godha Devi (Aandal) made out of copper was found in the temple tank over 100 years back.
  • During every festival (Especially Brahmotsavam), dance programs are performed in the traditional way by Temple Dances group.

Architecture

Sri Ranganathaswamy temple has a 3-tier Rajagopuram with a dhwajastamham and a Pillared mandapam in a typical Dravidain style of architecture.

History

The temple was constructed in 1600 A.D., however history of the builder is unknown. The temple and it's surrounding land were purchased by Seth Shivlal Pitti (Rajasthani) in 1861. Until 1954, it was maintained as a private property by the Pitti family. In 1954 Seth Pannalal Pitti handed over the temple and it's property to a trust, which is now maintained by Pitti's family.
