Architecture
Uma Maheswara Temple is constructed in style of Sangama Dynasty. This temple has a pushkarini with a small pond in the temple premises and water flows into this Pushkarini from the bottom of hill through the mouth of a Nandi (bull). The water is fresh and sweet as it comes from the hills and Yaganti Temple has idols of Shiva and Parvathi engraved out of a single stone.
Religious Significance
After completing the North journey, Sage Agastya started his journey towards South India. During the journey, he came across a place and was impressed with the natural beauty around Yaganti ( Neganti means I saw) and thought of installing Lord Venkateswara here. He found the Vishnu’s idol in a cave nearby and did all the rituals prior installation. At the time of installation, Sage Agastya noticed that the Idol’s toenail was broken and stopped the event. Agasthya Rishi was upset and did penance for Lord Siva to know the reason. Lord Siva explained to him that this place suits for Saiva Kshetra and that is why he was not able to install the Idol. Lord Siva self-manifested here as an Ardhanareswara ( Lord Siva occupies half of the body and other halves will be of Goddess Parvathi) on request of Sage Agastya. Ardhanareswara was praised here as Sri Uma Maheswara Swamy. This temple was built during 5th and 6th century and was patronized by Pallavas, Cholas and Chalukyas.
