Architecture
According to the Sthalapurana in Tretayuga, Ravana tortured the Devatas and people, Lord Surya(Ravi), Vasuki (king of nagas), Soma (moon) were insulted by Ravana. Then they approached Lord Brahma. Than Brahma suggested them to install Shivalinga. By the name of these devathas the Shivalinga called as Ravi Vasuki Someswara Swamy.
Religious Significance
As per the Legend, King Ravana was torturing Devatas and people of his kingdom.Vasuki,the king of Nagas, Sun God,Lord Soma or Moon God were all insulted and ridiculed and were tortured by Ravana.They all approached Lord Brahma seeking help. Brahma suggested them to install Shiva Linga and perform pooja to Lord Shiva on the banks of Gostani River so that Lord Rama takes birth to kill Ravana. Following Brahma’s instructions Vasuki ,Ravi and Soma installed Shiva Linga and prayed Lord Shiva So the puranas suggest that this is the beginning of Ramavatar. According to Sthala Purana Shiva Lingam is 18.2 million years old. It is believed that Shiva Lingam is installed before the birth of Lord Rama. The Vayu Purana extols the temple as Dakshina Kasi.
History
This temple is built by Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah. Sri Uma Vasuki Ravi Somehswara Swamy Vari Temple was renovated in 15th century under Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah as per the inscriptions here. According to the inscriptions, these temples were renovated in the year 1583.
