Architecture
Sri Bhu Sametha Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy Temple is also known as Perumalla Swamy temple. Every day he used to go tirumala to participate in the service of the Lord. After attaining the old age. Thondaman expressed his inability to the Lord of travelling to Tirumala to have his Darshan. The Lord after realizing the intention of Thondaman promised that he himself will come to his house. For accepting the Pooja Kainkaryams. Accordingly, The Lord along with SriDevi and Bhu Devi to used to come to the House of Thondaman for accepting the sevas. The Lord was called ‘VeetilIrndurai Perumal’ because of the appearance in the house. Since Thondaman constructed Ananda Nilayam at Tirumala, here at Tondamanadu also the construction of Temple gopuram was constructed in similar structure and Lord here can be seen in Abhaya Hastha posture, indicating that the Lord will come to the rescue of the devotees. The temple facing towards East direction with Dravidian Architectural Style and the Raja Gopuram consists of Three Tier.
Central niche of the Southern wall housing Dakshinamurthy. Here’s a discarded plaque of Pandya era and stones containing rare inscriptions. Engraved on a black stone, the inscription pertains to the sale of land by brothers Thikkanan and Akkanan to the three sons of Avaiyandar, a resident of Tondaimanatrur. The sale proceed was 100 ‘panams’. Though it belongs to the ‘Common Commercial Transaction’ category, what adds value is the mention of the ruling king Jatavarman Sundara Pandya, his titles ‘Tribhuvana Chakravarthy’ and ‘Kochadayan’ and the revenue details of the places i.e., Tondaimandalam and ‘Tiruvengadakottam’ (Venkata’s place). The date of the inscription is based on the regnal year 11th after the succession of the king, which suggests that it belongs to around 1260 A.D. The main Temple consists of four mandapas i.e. Mahamandapa, Mukhamandapa, Antaraalayam and Garbhagruha. At the entrance of Antaraalayam we find the idols of two dwarapalakas Jaya and Vijaya. There was a big Tank constructed by Thondaman near to the temple which accumulates the water from Akasaganga of tirumala.Tondaman made arrangements to perform the Abhishekam to Lord with this water only.
Religious Significance
