  • Sri Perumbudur is the Avathara Sthala (birth place) of the celebrated Vaishnavite Acharya who established the Vishishtadvaida philosophy.
  • As a heaven by itself on earth giving birth to the great Acharya, there is no Sorgavasal in the temple as is traditionally seen in Lord Vishnu temples.
  • On the Vaikunda Ekadasi day falling in December-January, both Lord and Acharya grace together in the Boodhakal Mandap.
  • As a formality, only the belled doors of the shrine are opened on the occasion.

Dress Code

  • For men the dress code is Shirt & Trouser, Dhoti or Pyjamas with upper cloth.
  • For women the preferred dress code is saree or half-saree with blouse or chudidhar with pyjama and upper cloth.
  • These rules are applicable for foreigners also. Shorts, mini-skirts, middies, sleeveless tops, low-waist jeans and short-length T-shirts are not allowed.
  • Pilgrims/visitors will not be allowed inside the temple if dress code is not followed.

Architecture

Arulmigu Adikesavaperumal & Sri Bhashyakara Swamy Temple faces East direction, has a 5 tier Rajagopuram and Built in Dravidian style of architecture. Once you enter the temple you will find the Dwajasthambam. A Golden Mandap built by the Maharaja of Mysore. Kudraikal Mandapam, Thanga Mandapam Ouyali Seva Mandapam, Kannadi Mandapam,Yoga saalaa, 16 Kaal, 4 Kaal Mandapam is there opposite to 100 Kaal Mandapam. Beautiful painting of Manavala Mamunigal doing Kalashepam is placed and small bronze idol is placed in the pillar. Temple consists of two theerthams named as Ananthah Sarasu, Bhashyakar Eri.

Religious Significance

In the Kailasha Lord Shiva once dancing, and Lord Shiva was deeply involved in dancing and he was doing Avesha Narthanam and suddenly his robes fell down, seeing this all the Bhootha ganas laughed. Then Shiva becomes very angry on his Bhootha Ganas and curses them that they should go to Bhoo Loka and do Nithya vasam. Then Bhootha ganas realize their mistakes, they repent and pray to Shiva for his mercy, Shiva tells once I have given the shapa (Curse) I cannot take it back, so go to Brahma ask for Pariharam. Then Brahma tells that please go to the Punya Bhoomi of Great Bhartha Varusham, Go to a place known as Arunaranyam Kshetram which is situated in between Thiruvenkatam Hills and Sathayavratha Kshetram (Kanchi) and pray to Lord Maha Vishnu for Sapa Vimochanam. As instructed by the Brahma comes to Arunaranyam Kshetram and Lord Vishnu for curing them from a curse of Shiva. Lord Vishnu created a spring here, Anantha Saras Theertham and gave darshan to them, to relieve them of the curse. The place is also called Bhoodhapuri.

History

Temple was Built From (1017– 1137 C.E.) by Haritha Maharaja. The Boodha Ganas, an army of Lord Shiva are believed to have created this temple.
