Architecture

Since pancha bhoota Prithvi (Earth), Jal (Water), Agni (Fire), Vayu (Air), Akash (Space) worshipped the lord here as Imuktheeswarar. The temple is facing in West direction and has a 3-tier Raja gopuram. 

History

It is believed that sage Valmiki stayed here and worshipped the Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva of this temple was worshipped by sage Agasthiar and hence he is called as Agastheeswarar.
