The presiding deity of this temple is Sri Jaganmohini Keshava Swamy, who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Here idol is 5 feet tall, 3 feet wide and has been beautifully and gracefully carved out of a single black saligrama stone. The idol has four hands. He is shown holding "Shankha" (conch) and "Chakra" (disc) in two hands while the other two hands hold "Gadha" and "Manthara" mountain.

Interesting Facts

The front portion of the Idol is depicting the Lord Vishnu in the male form, and the back portion is of the female form which is Jagan Mohini.
The figure is a typical female form with a fine and flowing lock of hair and knit with flowers and some ornaments are on her legs.

Architecture

Lord JaganMohini Keshava Swamy temple is facing in South direction. On the walls of the tower the sculptures of Dasavataras and figures of parrots are beautifully sculptured. The idol was made with black saligrama stone. Water keeps sprouting from the underground at the idol's feet.

Ryali Jagan Mohini Sthalapurana : Lord Vishnu disguised himself as Jagan Mohini (female form) to cheat Asuras while distributing Nectar (Amrutha). Mohini while returning in a chariot after distributing Nectar, the nail of the chariot wheel fell down after reaching the mid-region of Godavari. Mohini turned back and found that Lord Siva was in Mohini Maaya and following the Chariot. Lord Vishnu appeared in his actual form to break the Maaya of Lord Siva, with the female form on his back. Religious Significance

"Ryali" in telugu means falling. According to the legend "Bhagavatam" the Devatas and Rakshas were quarrelling over sharing of holy Devine nectar. Seeing this, "Sri Maha Vishnu" came to the rescue of Devatas in the guise of Mohini (a beautiful woman) and convinced both the rivalry groups promising to distribute holy Devine nectar in equal share to Devatas and Rakshas. But in the interest of universal peace the Devine nectar was distributed among Devatas alone and after which Mohini disappeared. Lord Siva happened to see the fascinating beauty of Mohini. He chased her for getting for a while in the presence of his consort Parvathi Devi. As he was chasing her, flower from the plait of Mohini fell down and was smelt by Lord Siva. He surprisingly found "Sree Maha Vishnu" in the form of Mohini and felt shy for his behavior. The place where the flower from the plait of Mohini fell was named as RYALI.

Legend : As per the Legends, the King Vikrama Deva ruler of this region was relaxing under a tree after hunting. In his dreams, he saw a group of devotees praising the Lord with their songs. King got up from sleep and remained awake for some time and went to sleep again. He got the same dream again while asleep. The same day night, Lord Vishnu appeared in the dreams of the Kings and revealed his whereabouts. As advised by the Lord, the King built the wooden chariot and started dragging the Car, after reaching some distance the nail of chariot fallen down. King ordered the staff to recover the Idol below the Earth. Temple was built for this Idol where the king had the dream of Bhajans.

History

This temple was built by the King Raja Narendra of Chola Dynasty in 11th century A.D. and Later it was renovated in 1936. Raja Vikrama deva was contributed for this temple.
